Dark-Sky-Friendly Lighting
Outdoor fixtures can improve nighttime visibility on a walkway or patio, but too much artificial lighting can blind us from viewing the stunning sky above. To reduce light pollution and encourage more efficient energy usage, many communities have established “dark sky” initiatives regulating the style and number of fixtures in a given area.
So, what is “dark sky” lighting? Dark-sky-friendly lighting points downwards, wasting less energy by only casting light where it is needed. The color temperature is also limited to 3,000 Kelvins or less, minimizing the blue light that most severely reduces sky visibility. The easiest way to ensure your lighting is compliant is to look for the “Dark Sky Approved” seal, issued by the International Dark Sky Association (DSA).
You'll be proud of the efficient, star-studded outdoor space you create. Guaranteed.
